Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is reportedly furious after an incident at the Asia Cup 2025 involving the Pakistani and Indian teams. The controversy revolves around a perceived breach of protocol regarding handshakes between the two teams before their Group A match. This has led to significant repercussions within the PCB, including the sacking of a key official.

The dismissed official is Usman Walha, who held the position of Director of Cricket Operations within the PCB. According to reports, Walha failed to inform Pakistan's captain, Salman Agha, about the specific rules and regulations concerning pre-and post-match handshakes at the Asia Cup. This oversight seemingly caught Salman Agha off guard, leading to an awkward situation when the teams met on the field.

Following the match, the PCB lodged a complaint with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), alleging that match referee Andy Pycroft had advised both captains to forgo the customary handshake. The PCB further accused Pycroft of violating the Spirit of Cricket and even wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC), demanding his suspension from the tournament. The board threatened to reconsider Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup if Pycroft was not replaced.

However, a report revealed that the entire issue stemmed from Walha's failure to properly brief Captain Salman Agha. This failure to communicate the "No Handshake" policy, resulted in embarrassment for the team and its captain. Naqvi, who is also the head of the ACC, reportedly reacted strongly to this oversight, leading to Walha's immediate dismissal on Monday.

Reports suggest that Naqvi was particularly incensed by Walha's inaction following the apparent handshake snub. A source within the PCB stated that "Walha should have released a statement at the toss itself when the two captains didn't shake hands". Naqvi apparently felt that Walha's poor handling of the situation exacerbated the issue and brought unnecessary negative attention to the Pakistan cricket team.

Adding to the tension, Pakistan suffered a defeat to India in the Asia Cup match. Following the loss, Salman Agha skipped the post-match presentation. Kuldeep Yadav was awarded Man of the Match for his performance. Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the victory to the Indian Armed Forces.
