Upper Deck has released its highly anticipated 2024-25 PWHL set, marking the second edition of PWHL cards and the first to showcase the league's new teams and branding. This release follows the successful inaugural flagship release and caters to the growing demand for PWHL hockey cards, which feature stars like Marie-Philip Poulin, Taylor Heise, and Hilary Knight.
The 2024-25 Upper Deck PWHL set includes a base set of 50 cards and 20 Young Guns cards, highlighting action shots of players in the new PWHL jerseys. Collectors can also chase the Outburst Young Guns parallel cards. In addition to the established Blue Dazzlers, Pink Dazzlers are new to this year's product. Blaster-exclusive Purple Dazzlers cards are also available. The set also introduces the PWHL-exclusive Elevated Talent series.
A significant addition to this year's set is the inclusion of autograph cards. For the first time in a flagship PWHL product, collectors have the chance to find autographs from over 30 of the league's top stars through the Base Set Autograph Parallel and PWHL Signatures.
The release has already generated considerable buzz within the collector community. Upper Deck Brand Coordinator, Keegan Krasne, noted the incredible reception of the first set and the high anticipation for the second. The inclusion of autograph cards and the chase for rare parallels like the Cayla Barnes Gold Outburst card (a one-of-one) have further fueled excitement.
The popularity of PWHL cards is reflected in the secondary market, with some cards from the first edition fetching high prices. For example, Marie-Philip Poulin's Upper Deck First Year Young Guns card has been listed for as much as $1,000 CAD, while her Red Outburst Young Guns card has been priced near $8,000 CAD. Hilary Knight's Red Outburst Young Guns card has been listed at over $2,500 USD, and Sarah Fillier's 2024-25 Upper Deck PWHL Autographs Rookie card has been listed at $3,000 CAD.
Upper Deck's commitment to the PWHL extends beyond this release, with internal discussions about expanding their PWHL product line as the league grows. With the PWHL's expansion to Vancouver and Seattle and plans for further team additions, the future looks bright for both the league and the collectible market surrounding it.
Collectors can find the 2024-25 Upper Deck PWHL set at local hobby shops and authorized online retailers. The set is available in various formats, including blasters and hobby boxes. Each hobby box contains, on average, three Young Guns rookie cards, one Purple Dazzlers card, two Blue Dazzlers cards, one UD Portraits card, and two Elevated Talent insert cards.
