Aiden Markram's magnificent century has propelled South Africa into a commanding position against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's. His resilient innings, combined with a determined half-century from Temba Bavuma, has tilted the scales in favor of the Proteas as they chase a target of 282 on Day 3.

South Africa's chase began cautiously after Australia were bowled out for 207 in their second innings, setting a target of 282. Mitchell Starc struck early, removing Ryan Rickelton to leave South Africa at 1/1. Markram, however, stood firm, displaying remarkable composure and skill against the formidable Australian bowling attack.

Wiaan Mulder joined Markram, and the pair began to rebuild the innings with a solid partnership. They put on a fifty-run stand, steadying the ship for South Africa. However, Starc struck again, dismissing Mulder for 27, leaving Markram to continue the fight.

Captain Temba Bavuma then joined Markram, battling through a hamstring injury. The pair exhibited great character, grinding out runs and frustrating the Australian bowlers. Markram reached his half-century, and shortly after, South Africa reached their 100.

As the day progressed, the Markram-Bavuma partnership blossomed, with both batsmen displaying incredible resilience and determination. They continued to accumulate runs, putting pressure back on the Australian team. Markram, in particular, was a sight to behold, stroking the ball with confidence and authority.

Markram's century arrived in the final session of the day, a moment of pure elation for the South African opener and his team. It was a well-deserved hundred, marking his eighth in Test cricket and his first in a WTC Final. In doing so, Markram became only the third player to score a century in a WTC final, after Steve Smith and Travis Head, who both achieved the feat in the 2023 final against India. At stumps, Markram remained unbeaten on 102, having demonstrated remarkable concentration and skill throughout his innings. Bavuma was also not out on 65.

The partnership between Markram and Bavuma is currently an unbroken 143. South Africa closed Day 3 at 213/2, needing just 69 more runs to win with eight wickets in hand.

Australia will need a miraculous comeback on Day 4 to change things in their favor. Adding to Australia's woes, Steve Smith dislocated his finger while fielding, making him unlikely to feature further in the match.

Earlier in the day, Pat Cummins took his 300th Test wicket and finished with figures of 6/28, but South Africa managed to bowl out Australia for 207. Mitchell Starc's valuable knock of 58 helped Australia add crucial runs to their total.

The stage is now set for a thrilling Day 4, with South Africa in a strong position to win their first-ever WTC title. However, Australia will not give up without a fight, and the final day promises to be a captivating contest between two top-quality teams.
