Matt Rempe, the New York Rangers' imposing enforcer, has secured his place on Broadway for another two years. On June 18, 2025, the Rangers announced that they had agreed to terms with the restricted free-agent forward on a two-year contract extension worth $1.95 million, carrying an average annual value of $975,000. This deal ensures that the fan-favorite Rempe will remain with the team, preventing him from potentially receiving an offer sheet when he was eligible to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

The 22-year-old, standing at a towering 6-foot-9 and weighing 255 pounds, has quickly become a recognizable figure in the Rangers lineup. Selected by the Rangers in the sixth round (165th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, the Calgary, Alberta native brings a unique blend of size, physicality, and surprising skill to the ice.

In the 2024-2025 season, Rempe appeared in 42 games, where he tallied three goals and five assists, accumulating eight points and a plus-seven rating. More than just his offensive contributions, Rempe's physical presence was undeniable. He led the Rangers with 67 penalty minutes and his 19.64 hits per 60 minutes was the sixth-most in the NHL among players who skated in at least 40 games. Since the start of the 2023-24 season, he ranks fifth in the NHL in hits per 60 minutes of ice time (minimum 50 games played) with 22.12.

Prior to solidifying his role with the Rangers, Rempe honed his skills in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack, playing parts of three seasons with the team. In 114 games for the Wolf Pack since the 2022-23 season, he recorded 27 points (17 goals and 10 assists). He also played 17 games for the Blueshirts in 2023-24, recording one goal and one assist.

Chris Drury, President and General Manager of the New York Rangers, highlighted Rempe's impact, noting that he led the team in hits per 60 minutes. Throughout his 59 career NHL games, Rempe has recorded a total of 4 goals, 6 assists and 10 points, along with one game-winning goal.

The Rangers' decision to extend Rempe's contract demonstrates their commitment to maintaining a roster that combines skill with grit. While the team is coming off a disappointing season where they missed the playoffs, just a year removed from winning the Presidents' Trophy, retaining Rempe ensures that the team maintains a physical edge. Under new head coach Mike Sullivan, who replaced Peter Laviolette, the Rangers are looking to retool and return to contention. With other moves like trading Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks, Drury is actively shaping the team's future.

As Rempe continues his career on Broadway, fans can expect to see the same hard-hitting, energetic style of play that has made him a fan favorite.
