The possibility of Sebastian Vettel returning to Red Bull Racing has ignited the Formula 1 world, fueled by recent comments from Max Verstappen and Vettel himself. While a return to the cockpit seems unlikely, the prospect of the four-time world champion taking on a management or advisory role within the team is gaining momentum.

Verstappen, speaking ahead of Red Bull's home race in Austria, openly welcomed the idea of Vettel's return. "It's more than normal that someone that has achieved so much with Red Bull, who has been brought up by Red Bull that.... there's always a spot available [for them]," Verstappen stated. He further emphasized the strong relationship Vettel has maintained with Helmut Marko, Red Bull's influential advisor, even after leaving the team. "Seb always kept a really good relationship with Helmut, even when he left [the team]. I didn't know that they were talking, but I'm sure that there's always a space for Seb in any kind or form."

Vettel's connection with Red Bull runs deep. He secured the team's first pole position and race win in 2009 and went on to win four consecutive World Championships from 2010 to 2013, cementing his status as a Red Bull legend. Since retiring from F1 at the end of the 2022 season, Vettel has remained a respected figure in the paddock, advocating for issues such as mental health, environmental sustainability, and human rights.

The speculation surrounding Vettel's return intensified after he confirmed having discussions with Marko about a potential role. While the specifics remain unclear, it's widely believed that Vettel could be a potential successor to Marko, who, at 82 years old, has been a pivotal figure in Red Bull's driver development program since 2005. Marko's keen eye for talent has brought drivers like Vettel, Verstappen, and Daniel Ricciardo into Formula 1.

Vettel acknowledged the ongoing dialogue, stating, "There have been a few headlines now, I still get along very well with Helmut, and we are also in exchange on the subject. These are not yet so intense, and in-depth, but it may be something where I can play a role, but in what form, it will show." He also acknowledged the difficulty of replacing Marko, emphasizing his unique character and contributions to the team. "Marko is not replaceable, let's leave it at that, such as his character, and he has done a very large amount for the team since 2005, and it might not be the goal for someone to replace him."

If Vettel were to return in an advisory or management capacity, he could bring a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the team. His understanding of the sport, combined with his passion for sustainability and inclusivity, could be invaluable as Formula 1 evolves. Moreover, his presence would offer the next generation of Red Bull drivers the opportunity to learn from a proven champion.

Currently, Red Bull Racing's driver lineup for the 2025 season consists of Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson. Lawson replaced Sergio Perez, with the announcement being made earlier in the year. While a return to driving seems off the table for Vettel, his potential involvement in a different capacity has generated excitement within the team and among fans, with many believing he would be a perfect fit for a management role.
