The Calgary Flames have signed forward Martin Pospisil to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $2.5 million. The deal, announced on Wednesday by Pospisil's agent Dan Milstein, will begin in the 2026-27 season and run through 2028-29. Pospisil will play the 2025-26 season on the final year of his current two-year, $2 million contract.

Pospisil, 25, is a native of Zvolen, Slovakia. He was drafted by the Flames in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 2023-24 season. In 144 NHL games over two seasons with Calgary, Pospisil has recorded 12 goals and 37 assists.

In the 2024-25 season, Pospisil played in 81 games, recording a career-best 25 points (4 goals, 21 assists) and 84 penalty minutes. He also led the Flames with 301 hits, which tied him for third in the league with William Cuylle. Pospisil averaged 13:48 of ice time per game, including just under a minute on the power play.

Pospisil has also represented Slovakia on the international stage. He was named to Slovakia's preliminary roster for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games and has played in the IIHF World Championships and an Olympic Qualification tournament.

With this extension, Pospisil is now the seventh member of the Flames signed through at least the 2028-29 season. He joins forwards Jonathan Huberdeau, Nazem Kadri, Matt Coronato, and Yegor Sharangovich, as well as defensemen Mackenzie Weegar and Kevin Bahl.

The Flames' general manager, Craig Conroy, has been working to finalize the team's roster for the upcoming seasons. With Pospisil's extension secured, Conroy's offseason to-do list is now primarily focused on a new contract for restricted free agent Connor Zary.

Pospisil has found a role on the team by bringing "pace and physicality". While he may not be a high-end offensive player, his physical play and ability to create space are seen as valuable assets as the Flames integrate younger, more offensively-minded players into their lineup.
