Erling Haaland delivered a record-breaking performance for Norway, scoring five goals in their dominant 11-1 victory against Moldova in a World Cup qualifying match. The Manchester City striker was in unstoppable form, leading the charge in a Group I clash that saw Norway maintain their perfect record after five games.

Haaland's scoring spree began early, as he provided an assist for Felix Horn Myhre's opening goal in the 6th minute. He then proceeded to take center stage, finding the net in the 11th, 36th, and 43rd minutes to complete a first-half hat-trick. This marked his fifth international hat-trick. Martin Ødegaard also added a goal in first-half injury time, effectively sealing the match by halftime.

However, Haaland wasn't finished yet. Seven minutes into the second half, he added his fourth goal of the night and then scored again with seven minutes remaining in the match. This brought his international tally to a staggering 48 goals in 45 appearances. Haaland's five goals represent a personal best for him in a Norway shirt. It is also the most goals scored by a European male player in a World Cup qualifier since 1977 when Hans Krankl of Austria scored six against Malta.

Thelo Aasgaard, a Rangers midfielder who came on as a substitute in the 64th minute, also had a memorable night, scoring four goals. Felix Horn Myhre and Martin Ødegaard contributed to the scoreline as well. Moldova's sole goal came from a Leo Ostigard own goal.

With this victory, Norway tops Group I with 15 points, six ahead of second-placed Italy. They are aiming to reach their first men's World Cup since 1998.

In other World Cup qualifying matches, Cristiano Ronaldo equaled a record by scoring his 39th goal in World Cup qualifying, matching Carlos Ruiz of Guatemala. Portugal secured a 3-2 victory against Hungary.
