On the first day of the Test match between India and the West Indies in Ahmedabad, Jasprit Bumrah reached a new milestone, adding to his already impressive career. Bumrah became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 50 Test wickets at home in terms of balls bowled. He accomplished this feat in just 1,747 deliveries.

Bumrah reached the milestone by bowling Johann Layne with an unplayable yorker. Earlier, he dismissed John Campbell and Justin Greaves, ending with 3/42 as India dismissed the West Indies for 162 in 44.1 overs. Bumrah also equaled Javagal Srinath's record of reaching 50 Test wickets at home in 24 innings. Kapil Dev (25 innings), Ishant Sharma (27 innings), and Mohammed Shami (27 innings) follow them.

Statistically, Bumrah stands out among the 30 bowlers with at least 50 Test wickets in India. His average of 17 is the best. Richard Benaud, a former Australian legspinner, is the only other bowler with more than 50 Test wickets in India and an average below 20, with 52 wickets at 18.38. Bumrah is also the only bowler in Test history to have over 200 wickets at an average of under 20. Following his performance in Ahmedabad, he now has 222 wickets in 49 Tests at an average of 19.74.

India's seamers, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, devastated the West Indies batting order, claiming seven wickets and dismissing the tourists for 162 before tea on the first day of the first Test in Ahmedabad. After winning the toss and opting to bat, the West Indies were quickly put on the back foot by India's pace attack. Tagenarine Chanderpaul was caught by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel off Siraj (4-40) for a duck on his return to the side. After an Indian review, John Campbell was caught behind off Bumrah (3-42) for eight, joining his opening partner in the dressing room and leaving the West Indies in trouble at 20-2 on a pitch with moisture. Brandon King (13) paid the price for a bad leave when Siraj's ball crashed into the wickets, and Alick Athanaze (12) edged the pacer to KL Rahul at second slip.

Kuldeep Yadav (2-25) marked his selection as India's third spin bowler alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar by bowling Hope at the stroke of lunch to end his 48-run stand with Chase. Siraj returned after the break to dismiss West Indies skipper Chase for 24 with a swinging ball that took the outside edge, before Washington trapped Test debutant Khary Pierre in front of the wicket for 11. Bumrah bowled Greaves and Johann Layne (1) to claim his 50th wicket at home before Kuldeep dismissed Jomel Warrican for eight to finish the job.
