Harry Kane's Availability Boosts England's World Cup Qualification Hopes in Latvia Match

England received a significant boost as captain and all-time leading goalscorer Harry Kane has recovered from an ankle injury and is available for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Latvia. The Three Lions aim to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup with a victory in Riga on Tuesday, October 14.

Kane sustained the injury while playing for Bayern Munich, causing him to miss England's recent 3-0 friendly win against Wales. Despite being included in the squad for the Wales match, he was never a genuine option to play. However, the Bayern Munich star has since participated fully in training with the rest of the squad and is ready to feature against Latvia.

Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that there is "no reason why Kane cannot play 'all 90 minutes' in Riga". Kane's return is a major positive for England, as they look to overcome Latvia, whom they defeated 3-0 at Wembley in March. In that previous encounter, Kane captained the Three Lions and scored their second goal.

While Kane is back in the fold, striker Ollie Watkins will miss the game due to a knock he picked up against Wales. Watkins collided with the post after missing a chance in the first half and was replaced by Marcus Rashford. Uncapped Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jarell Quansah has also been ruled out of the squad because of injury.

England currently top Group K in World Cup qualifying with six points from their first two matches. They are aiming to maintain their momentum and secure qualification as quickly as possible.

Reflecting on the previous match against Latvia, Kane acknowledged the challenges posed by a defensively organized opponent. He emphasized the need for patience and individual brilliance to break down teams that deploy "11 men behind the ball".

With Harry Kane back in the team and determined to lead from the front, England are in a strong position to achieve their World Cup qualification goal against Latvia. The match is set to take place in Riga on Tuesday evening, October 14.
