Ryan Greene is seizing the opportunity presented to him with the Chicago Blackhawks early in the 2025-26 NHL season. After signing an entry-level contract with the Blackhawks in April 2025, following the conclusion of his season with Boston University, Greene is looking to establish himself as a valuable member of the team.

Greene's journey to the NHL began after being drafted by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft. He returned to Boston University for his junior season, where he tallied 12 goals and 16 assists across 32 games. After Boston University lost in the National Championship, Greene officially signed with the Blackhawks. He made his NHL debut in April, appearing in two regular-season games for the team.

The 21-year-old forward was recalled from the AHL's Rockford IceHogs on October 6, 2025, after Landon Slaggert was placed on injured reserve. This provided Greene with an opportunity to showcase his abilities at the NHL level.

Greene made the most of his chance, scoring his first NHL goal in an 8-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues on October 15, 2025. Greene's goal came at 12:21 of the third period, marking his first shot on goal of the season. In the five games he has played this season, Greene has recorded three hits and a plus-1 rating. Connor Bedard, the Blackhawks' first overall pick in the 2023 draft, assisted on Greene's first NHL goal.

Currently, Greene is playing in a fourth-line role for the Blackhawks. While this may limit his offensive production, it allows him to gain valuable experience and develop his overall game. The Blackhawks hope that Greene will improve in faceoffs with the help of assistant coach Michael Peca. It is possible that Greene may spend some time with AHL Rockford to further his development.
