Chengdu, October 25, 2025 – India is assured of a gold medal at the Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Championships as Lakshya Rajesh and Diksha Sudhakar have both secured their places in the finals. The young shuttlers have demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament, marking a significant achievement for Indian badminton on the international stage.
Lakshya Rajesh displayed a dominant performance in her semi-final match, showcasing strategic gameplay and precise execution. Her journey to the final included a commanding victory over Chinese Taipei's Kuan Yi Lin with scores of 21-17, 21-11 in an earlier round. Diksha Sudhakar, seeded sixth, also demonstrated composure and skill, outclassing Chinese Taipei's Pin Hsuan Chiang 21-19, 21-15 to secure a quarterfinal berth. Earlier in the tournament, Diksha fought back to defeat China's Luo Ya Ru 17-21, 21-16, 21-11.
In addition to Lakshya and Diksha's success, Jagsher Singh Khangurra also made a strong impression in the boy's singles, reaching the pre-quarterfinals. He secured a victory over China's Zhang Yu Feng with a score of 21-14, 21-17.
India's doubles teams have also shown their strength at the Championships. The pair of Aditi Deepak Raj and P. Vriddhi edged past Korea's Lee Yun Seo and Park Yoo Jeong 17-21, 21-15, 21-17. In the U-15 category, Hemanth Sri Sammetla and Sharayu Ranjane moved past the fifth-seeded Singaporean duo with ease. Charan Ram Thippana and Hari Krishna Veeramreddy also produced a dominant 21-14, 21-8 victory against Japan's Kosuke Shinohara and Hiroto Nakatsuka.
Shaina Manimuthu, the top-seeded girls' singles player, also demonstrated her prowess by defeating Malaysia's Jing Er Tan 21-6, 21-10. Anvi Rathore, Wazir Singh, and SL Dhakshan Sugumaran have also contributed to India's strong performance at the tournament.
This success follows India's previous achievements at the Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Championships held in Chengdu, where they won a gold and a bronze in 2024, and one gold, one silver, and one bronze in 2023. With a 36-member squad competing this year, India is aiming to add more medals to its tally.
