Lando Norris Secures Stunning Mexico Victory, Overtaking Oscar Piastri in Championship Standings.

Mexico City, October 26, 2025 - Lando Norris secured a dominant victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix, propelling him to the top of the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship standings by a single point over his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. Norris's masterful performance from pole position saw him lead nearly every lap, finishing a staggering 30.324 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Red Bull's Max Verstappen completed the podium, finishing just 0.7 seconds behind Leclerc.

The race began with a frenetic start, as several cars jostled for position into the first corner. Norris, however, maintained his lead, skillfully navigating the initial chaos. Piastri, starting from seventh, had a difficult start, dropping to tenth after the first turn.

Norris steadily built his lead, demonstrating exceptional pace and control. His performance was so commanding that he remained unchallenged throughout the race, marking his tenth career victory. "What a race," Norris exclaimed after his win. "I could just keep my eyes focused and forward and focus on what I was doing. A pretty straightforward race for me, which is just what I was after".

Piastri, meanwhile, faced a challenging race, battling to recover from his poor start. He made steady progress, overtaking Yuki Tsunoda and George Russell on track, and gaining positions during pit stops. A late Virtual Safety Car (VSC) hindered his progress, preventing him from challenging Oliver Bearman for fourth place. Piastri ultimately finished fifth, a result that saw him relinquish his championship lead to Norris. "I felt like the whole race I was right behind someone and struggling with the dirty air. That was pretty difficult,” Piastri said. “Today was about trying to limit the damage, but also trying to learn some things about that. If I've made some progress with that, I'll be happy".

Oliver Bearman delivered an impressive performance for Haas, finishing fourth, his best result in Formula 1. The young Briton demonstrated remarkable skill, even holding off Verstappen for a period.

The Mexico City Grand Prix marked a significant shift in the Drivers' Championship battle. Norris now leads with 357 points, followed closely by Piastri with 356, and Verstappen with 321. With four races remaining, the championship fight is set to intensify. Norris last led the standings in April.

Norris's victory was met with some boos from the Mexican crowd, the reasons for which remain unclear. Despite this, Norris celebrated his "beautiful" win, acknowledging the support of his fans. The race also saw Lewis Hamilton receive a 10-second penalty for gaining an advantage by leaving the track.
