Prithvi Shaw's Blazing Ranji Trophy Innings: A Historic, Record-Shattering Double Century in Just 141 Balls.

Prithvi Shaw has roared back into form, scripting history with a blistering 141-ball double century for Maharashtra against Chandigarh in the Ranji Trophy on Monday. This remarkable feat marks his first double century for Maharashtra, following his switch from Mumbai. Shaw's explosive innings is now the second-fastest double century in Ranji Trophy history.

Shaw's record-breaking innings places him just behind Ravi Shastri, who achieved the milestone in a mere 123 balls for Mumbai against Baroda in 1985. Rahul Singh's double century in the 2023/24 season has been surpassed by Shaw’s current performance.

Playing in his second Ranji match for Maharashtra, Shaw made a significant impact, reaching his maiden hundred for the team in just 72 balls. Before reaching his double century, Shaw had already crossed the 150-run mark off 153 balls, punctuated by 21 fours and three sixes. He ultimately reached his double century in 141 balls, with his score including five sixes and 28 fours. He remained unbeaten on 214 off 147 balls.

Shaw's journey in the Ranji Trophy began in 2017 with Mumbai against Tamil Nadu. After representing Mumbai for several years, he joined Maharashtra at the end of last season. In his first match for Maharashtra against Kerala on October 15, he scored a duck in the first innings but rebounded with 75 runs in the second.

In the current match against Chandigarh, Shaw scored eight runs in the first innings before unleashing an aggressive batting display in the second innings. During his second innings, Shaw formed a 197-run partnership with Siddhesh Veer (62) for the third wicket.

This was overall his 14th First-Class hundred. In 60 First-Class games, he now has over 4,850 runs at an average of more than 50.

Meanwhile, in other Ranji Trophy news, a historic event occurred as Services defeated Assam in a match that lasted only 90 overs, the shortest completed game in the tournament's 91-year history. Tamil Nadu's Gurjapneet Singh took a hat-trick in the second round of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja is set to play for Saurashtra against Madhya Pradesh.
