NHL Morning Recap – November 2, 2025

Last night was packed with NHL action, featuring a full slate of games that delivered excitement from coast to coast. Several teams extended winning streaks, individual performances shone, and a few surprising outcomes unfolded.

In Montreal, the Canadiens continued their impressive start to the season, securing a 9-3-0 record. Their latest victory came against the Ottawa Senators in a thrilling overtime finish, with Alex Newhook netting the game-winner. Montreal has become the first team in NHL history to record five overtime wins through their first 12 games of a season. Ivan Demidov tied the game late in the third period, continuing a trend for the Canadiens, who have captured three wins this season after scoring a game-tying goal within the final three minutes of regulation. Their three such victories are tied for the most in a single season in franchise history. Cole Caufield also reached the 10-goal mark on Saturday.

Brad Marchand made a notable return to the Florida Panthers' lineup after spending time in his hometown. He scored in regulation and was the sole player to find the net in the shootout, securing a Panthers victory over the Dallas Stars. The Panthers have now won their fifth straight against the Stars, dating back to 2023-24.

The Winnipeg Jets also continued their winning ways, securing their third straight victory. Mark Scheifele assisted on the opening goal just 15 seconds into the game, marking the Jets' fastest start in nearly seven years. Kyle Connor contributed two goals in the win.

Out west, the Edmonton Oilers clashed with the Chicago Blackhawks. Jack Roslovic of the Oilers discussed the team's chemistry after their OT win against Chicago.

Looking ahead, the Utah Mammoth will face the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning are riding a four-game win streak. However, they will be without Nick Paul, who is out with an upper-body injury. The Mammoth had their seven-game win streak snapped recently but are still a formidable opponent on home ice. Logan Cooley is a player to watch for the Mammoth, while Jake Guentzel leads the Lightning's offense.

In other news, Jacob Markstrom has signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the New Jersey Devils. Eichel, Scheifele, and Dobes were named the NHL's 3 Stars of the Month for October. Schaefer was named NHL Rookie of the Month for October.

Several games were played on Saturday, November 1st, including Maple Leafs vs Flyers, Canucks vs Wild, Blues vs Blue Jackets, Capitals vs Sabres, Stars vs Panthers, Avalanche vs Sharks, Flames vs Predators, and Hurricanes vs Bruins.
