Wolves fire Vitor Pereira following a dismal start to Premier League campaign with no wins.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked manager Vitor Pereira following a disastrous start to the 2025/26 Premier League season. The club confirmed the decision on Sunday after a 3-0 defeat to Fulham left them rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points from their opening ten games.

Pereira's departure comes despite only being handed a new contract in September. The Portuguese coach, who was appointed in December 2024, initially steered Wolves away from a relegation battle last season, achieving a comfortable 17-point margin above the drop zone. However, this season has been a stark contrast, with the team failing to register a single victory.

The club's poor form has seen them repeat an unwanted feat from the previous season, becoming the first team in Premier League history to fail to win any of their first 10 games in successive campaigns. Wolves' two points this season came from draws against Tottenham and Brighton. The lack of results has left them eight points adrift of safety.

Recent weeks have also seen tensions rise between Pereira and the Wolves supporters. Following a 3-2 home defeat to Burnley, Pereira had to be escorted away from fans. He had pleaded for unity, stating, "We understand the frustration of the people and supporters, but what I must say, if we fight united with them, we can win games and compete and achieve our targets - without them, it is impossible".

Despite the mounting pressure, Pereira insisted after the Fulham defeat that he would not resign and vowed to turn the situation around. "I'm a fighter," he said. "I never give up. I'm not this kind of person. I will try my best in the next training to mentally recover the team, to tactically recover the organisation that we need for the next game". However, Wolves officials decided to act, terminating his contract.

The club are now searching for a replacement, with reports suggesting they are looking for an out-of-work manager as a "cheap option". Potential candidates mentioned include Brendan Rodgers, who recently left Celtic.

Pereira's tenure at Wolves lasted less than a year, marking another short stint in his well-traveled career. Prior to joining Wolves, he coached in seven countries, including Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Turkey, Germany, China and Brazil.
