David Beckham: From Football Icon to Knighted Legend - A Royal Honour Celebrated in England

Sir David Beckham has officially been knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The investiture ceremony recognized the 50-year-old former England football captain for his outstanding contributions to sports and his extensive charity work.

Beckham, accompanied by his wife Victoria, and his parents, Ted Beckham and Sandra West, described the honor as the "proudest moment" of his career. Victoria Beckham, in a show of support, wore an elegant black dress of her own design and styled her hair in an up-do. She also designed the custom-made morning suit, complete with a tailcoat, that Sir David wore for the occasion. This marks the first time the fashion designer has created an outfit for her husband.

The knighthood comes more than two decades after Beckham was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003. He was first nominated for a knighthood in 2011. King Charles bestowed the honor by resting a sword on Beckham's shoulder as he knelt before the monarch. Beckham can now add Knight Bachelor to his list of accomplishments. Victoria Beckham will now be referred to as Lady Beckham.

Speaking after the ceremony, Sir David mentioned that the King had complimented his suit. He also expressed his deep emotions about receiving the knighthood, highlighting his pride in being recognized in the King's Birthday Honors earlier in the year.

Sir David reflected on his journey: "To be honest, a young boy from the east end of London, born in Leytonstone, and here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King – the most important and the most respected institution in the world – it's quite a moment".

Throughout his career, Beckham earned 115 caps for the England national team, captaining the side for six years. His club career included six Premier League titles and two FA Cups. Beyond his achievements on the pitch, Beckham has been a champion of charitable causes, working as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2005 and launching the 7 Fund for UNICEF in 2015. In 2024, he became an ambassador for the King's Foundation.

Beckham acknowledged the influence his career has given him: "I think mostly it's because of the career that I've had and the teams that I've played for and the things that I've won and the respect that I've gained throughout my career, and I think that that is why people listen to me," he said. He further stated, "And I think it's a very powerful tool to have in charity. I just found very quickly that we could make change with things that I said and things that I got involved in and I think that's why it's so important to me".
