Erling Haaland's Unstoppable Champions League Run: Another Record Broken by the Prolific Striker

‘I’m Just Erling': Haaland Makes History With Latest Champions League Feat

Manchester City's Erling Haaland continues to redefine goal-scoring records in the Champions League, etching his name in history once again after his recent performance against Borussia Dortmund. The Norwegian striker, known for his humility and team-first attitude, has become the first player to score in five consecutive Champions League matches for three different clubs.

Haaland's journey to this milestone began with Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored in five straight Champions League appearances in the 2019-20 campaign. He continued his scoring streak with Borussia Dortmund in the 2020-21 season, repeating the feat before his move to Manchester City. Now, in the 2025-26 season, he has once again achieved this remarkable record, solidifying his place among the Champions League elite.

The 25-year-old scored City's second goal against Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium. Jeremy Doku found space on the left edge of the penalty area before delivering a low driven cross to Haaland, who powered the ball into the back of the net. This goal was his 18th of the 2025/26 season in all competitions.

Haaland's goal-scoring prowess in the Champions League is unparalleled. He reached 50 goals in just 49 appearances, shattering Ruud van Nistelrooy's previous record of 62 games. His current record stands at 52 goals in 50 games for all three clubs he has represented in the competition. Since his Champions League debut on September 17, 2019, no other player has scored more goals in the competition.

"He seems to break every record going. At his age, it's unheard of what he's doing,” said City teammate Phil Foden. City manager Pep Guardiola added, "The numbers speak for itself... How lucky and fortunate we are to have him". Guardiola has even placed Haaland among footballing greats like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski.

Despite his incredible achievements, Haaland remains grounded. When asked about Guardiola's praise for his attitude, he humbly responded, "I'm just Erling". This down-to-earth demeanor, combined with his extraordinary talent, has made him a fan favorite and a respected figure in the world of football.

Haaland's impact on Manchester City has been immense. The club signed him to bolster their attack and chase their Champions League dreams, and he has more than lived up to expectations. With 19 goals and three assists in 12 appearances for Man City this season, he is currently the top scorer this season.

As Haaland continues to make his mark on the Champions League, many are wondering if he could one day challenge Cristiano Ronaldo's all-time record of 141 goals in the competition. At just 25 years old, Haaland has plenty of time to chase this ambitious goal.
