Sean Dyche has voiced his support for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White to reclaim his place in the England national team. Dyche's endorsement comes after Gibbs-White played a crucial role in Forest's recent 3-1 victory over Leeds United on Sunday.
Gibbs-White, born on January 27, 2000, has already made an impact on the international stage, earning his first senior England call-up in August 2024. He was a key member of the England under-17 team that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2017 and also lifted the UEFA Under-21 European Championship title in 2023, scoring in the semi-final. In August 2024, Gibbs-White was called up to the senior squad and made his debut on September 7 in a 2-0 win against the Republic of Ireland.
Despite this, Gibbs-White was recently omitted from Thomas Tuchel's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. However, his performance against Leeds, where he scored a decisive goal, served as a reminder of his talent. Gibbs-White's second-half header helped Forest secure their first Premier League win since the opening day of the season, marking their first three points under Sean Dyche.
Dyche has acknowledged Gibbs-White's qualities, noting his calming influence and infectiousness within the team. He highlighted Gibbs-White's ability to point teammates in the right direction and his role as a glue that holds the team together. Dyche also commended Gibbs-White's defensive capabilities, stating that he understands the defensive role and works hard in it.
Gibbs-White began his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, making his first-team debut in 2017 and making almost 100 appearances for the club. After a loan spell at Swansea City, he joined Sheffield United on loan where he scored 12 goals and provided ten assists in 37 appearances. In 2022, he signed for Nottingham Forest.
Before the game against Leeds, a Forest fan who was injured while protecting a young girl during the Huntingdon train incident was honored. Gibbs-White had a shot saved early in the game by Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. After Leeds took the lead, Forest quickly responded, with Gibbs-White testing Perri again before eventually scoring in the second half. Anderson sealed the win with a penalty in the 90th minute.
Dyche's support suggests that he sees Gibbs-White as a key player for Nottingham Forest and believes he has the potential to regain his place in the England squad. Gibbs-White's performance against Leeds will likely boost his confidence and provide him with added motivation to continue improving and striving for a return to the national team.
