The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Pakistan has launched a formal investigation into former Pakistan cricket captain and wicketkeeper, Rashid Latif, concerning controversial social media posts and alleged connections to betting networks. The probe was initiated following complaints filed in Lahore on November 19 and in Islamabad on October 25 by Syed Ali Naqvi, the senior legal manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The investigation encompasses allegations that Latif maintained associations with gambling companies and made unverified accusations against the PCB, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and several players through his YouTube channel. According to NCCIA officials, some of Latif's online content appears to rely on incomplete or misleading data, which could potentially constitute violations of cybercrime laws.
Latif has appeared before inquiry teams in both Islamabad and Lahore, where he recorded his initial statements. He was also provided with a written questionnaire to answer. However, as of November 19, 2025, he has not yet submitted his replies. The NCCIA has urged Latif to respond to the questionnaire to help move the inquiries toward a conclusion.
Preliminary findings indicate that while Latif has referenced individuals linked to betting operations, he has not presented concrete evidence to support his allegations. The agency has widened the scope of the investigation. NCCIA officials maintain that if Latif's claims prove baseless, legal proceedings may follow. Conversely, he has been urged to present credible evidence if he possesses it, to help the investigation reach a conclusive end.
NCCIA spokesperson Najeebullah Hasan issued a statement confirming that Latif had recorded his statement in the two inquiries. The probe against Latif was launched based on the complaint of PCB senior legal manager Syed Ali Naqvi. Investigators have stated that Latif's recorded statements have not satisfied them, causing both inquiries to remain active.
