The Boston Fleet showcased a dominant performance against the Minnesota Frost on Sunday, December 7, securing a decisive 4-1 victory at Agganis Arena. This win solidifies the Fleet's position as a top team in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL), improving their perfect record to 3-0-0-0.
The Fleet established their dominance late in the first period. Shay Maloney broke the ice, skillfully maneuvering past the Frost's defense and scoring high on goaltender Maddie Rooney. Shortly after, Megan Keller extended the lead with a powerful shot through traffic, giving the Fleet a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission. The Fleet also outshot the Frost 17-11 in the first period.
The Minnesota Frost responded early in the second period when Klára Hymlárova capitalized on a well-placed centering pass, narrowing the score. However, their momentum was short-lived. A penalty against Minnesota allowed Abby Newhook to score on the power play, quickly restoring the Fleet's two-goal lead. Boston maintained control for the remainder of the period, carrying a 3-1 lead into the final frame, with a shot advantage of 25-22.
The Fleet sealed their victory early in the third period with another power-play goal. Theresa Schafzahl converted a rebound, marking her first goal of the season and solidifying the Fleet's commanding lead. The Boston Fleet ultimately won the game 4-1, also leading in shots on goal, 35-27.
Megan Keller, along with fellow defender Haley Winn, spearheaded the Fleet's effort. Keller contributed a goal and an assist, while Winn tallied two assists. Goaltender Aerin Frankel delivered another strong performance, making 26 saves.
Both teams will face off again on Friday, December 19, at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
