Jamie Carragher has delivered a scathing response to Mohamed Salah's recent explosive interview, branding the Liverpool star's conduct a "disgrace". The outburst follows Liverpool's dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds United, a match where Salah was an unused substitute for the third consecutive game, fueling speculation about his future at Anfield.
In the interview, Salah accused Liverpool of "throwing me under the bus" and claimed his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down. He also alluded to broken promises made by the club and expressed his disappointment at being repeatedly benched. "It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus," Salah stated. "That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame". He further added, "I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am in the bench for three games so I can't say they keep the promise".
Carragher, a Liverpool legend turned pundit, didn't hold back in his assessment of Salah's comments. Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher said Salah's decision to speak out in the mixed zone was "choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his position". He suggested that Salah strategically chose this moment to criticize the manager and potentially instigate his dismissal.
Carragher also criticized the timing of the interview, pointing out the importance of Liverpool's upcoming games against Inter Milan in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League. He felt Salah's outburst had overshadowed these crucial fixtures.
Salah even preempted Carragher's criticism in his interview, saying he expected Carragher to "go for me again". This stems from past disagreements between the two, notably when Carragher questioned Salah's motives for giving an interview amid contract negotiations in November 2024. At that time, Carragher expressed disappointment, suggesting Salah had used a moment of victory to discuss stalled contract talks.
Salah's frustration appears to stem from his lack of playing time under Arne Slot. Despite his contributions to the club over the years, including a record-equaling 47-goal contribution last season, he has found himself on the bench in recent matches. Salah himself alluded to a change in his relationship with Slot, stating, "I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don't have any relationship".
Adding fuel to the fire, Salah hinted at a possible departure from Liverpool, stating he would say goodbye to the fans during the upcoming match against Brighton before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations. He admitted uncertainty about his future, saying, "I don't know what is going to happen now".
Salah's remarks have divided fans and pundits alike. Some defend his right to speak out after feeling unfairly treated, while others believe no player is bigger than the club. The situation has created a tense atmosphere around Liverpool as they prepare for crucial matches, leaving many wondering about Salah's future at Anfield.
