Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has expressed his satisfaction with the team's growing momentum at home, following a string of positive results at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In a recent statement, Frank also addressed concerns surrounding the fitness of striker Dominic Solanke, who has been recovering from an ankle injury.
Speaking after Tottenham's 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague in the UEFA Champions League, Frank acknowledged the team's improved home form. The win, secured with a David Zima own goal and second-half penalties from Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons, marked their second consecutive home win, building on a 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford. "Yeah I was very happy that we built on the momentum from the Brentford game," Frank stated. "Both home, but in general just in terms of performance I think there was more offensive, positive notes to take from the game as well".
Tottenham's recent form has propelled them to ninth in the Champions League league phase, with a strong chance of securing a top-eight finish and direct qualification to the last 16 if they win their final two fixtures against Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt. However, Frank remains cautious, emphasizing the importance of securing a play-off round spot by finishing in the top 24. "Of course, first and foremost, I'm very happy for the win today, because that means more or less we're in a very strong position to definitely be in the play-offs, you could say, to progress," he added. "Those two games so far ahead. I'm just happy that we've got four days now before we face Nottingham (Forest), and that's everything I focus on".
Regarding Dominic Solanke, Frank downplayed fears of any setbacks in the striker's recovery. Solanke, who last played in August, has been sidelined with an ankle problem. Mathys Tel replaced him in the Champions League squad due to UEFA rules allowing changes for players sidelined for at least 60 days.
While offering no specific timeline for Solanke's return, Frank indicated the player is progressing. "When they are ready to really be close to being involved in the squad, then I will give more information," Frank said. In late October, Frank confirmed Solanke was "back on the grass" and "taking steps in the right direction".
Despite limited playing time this season, Solanke remains a key figure in Frank's plans. Last season, he scored 16 goals in all competitions, finishing as the team's second-highest scorer. Frank is reportedly keen on making Solanke the focal point of Tottenham's attack upon his return, with confidence that he can bring a "new dimension" to their play.
In other team news, Frank reported no fresh injury concerns following the Newcastle United game. However, Destiny Udogie will be out until January with a hamstring injury. Brennan Johnson is also a doubt for the upcoming match against Nottingham Forest.
