Manchester United secured a convincing 4-1 victory against Wolves at Molineux, with Mason Mount's performance drawing particular praise. The win propelled Manchester United to sixth place in the Premier League standings.
United's manager, Ruben Amorim, highlighted Mount's all-around contribution to the team. Amorim commended Mount's ability to both defend and attack, emphasizing the quality he brings to the team when in possession. He also noted Mount's leadership qualities, describing him as a player who "leads by the example". Amorim said, “He can defend, he can attack, the quality when he touches the ball is really good, so it's not a surprise for me,”.
The match saw Manchester United take the lead in the 25th minute through Bruno Fernandes, but Wolves responded with a goal from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde just before halftime. However, United regained control in the second half, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring to restore their lead. Mount then extended United's advantage with a well-taken volley from a sublime pass by Fernandes. Fernandes later sealed the victory with a penalty.
Mount expressed his determination to build on his recent performances and put past setbacks behind him. "Anytime I play I obviously want to play to the best of my ability and perform," Mount told Sky Sports. "I've had setbacks. I've had difficult times, I feel now I'm ready to keep pushing on and building on these performances". He also acknowledged the frustration of conceding the equalizer before halftime but praised the team's response in the second half.
Bruno Fernandes also praised Mount after the game, “We all know the calibre of player he is, and as soon as he gets on the ball, he's looking to create something,”. “So yeah, it's a joy to play with as a player that's a bit more higher up on the pitch, because he's going to try and play the ball over the top".
The victory was crucial for Manchester United, especially after their recent 1-1 draw with West Ham. The team displayed resilience and quality in the second half to secure the win. For Wolves, the defeat compounded their struggles, leaving them at the bottom of the Premier League table and without a win in their last eight matches in all competitions.
Mount's goal against Wolves was his second in three matches and his third of the season. This is as many goals as he has scored in his two previous seasons with United, both of which were hampered by injury.
