Pune, December 14, 2025 - Yashasvi Jaiswal's magnificent century propelled Mumbai to a stunning victory against Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 Super League Group B match held at the DY Patil Academy. Mumbai chased down a formidable target of 235 with four wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare, marking their highest successful chase in SMAT history and the second-highest overall in the tournament.
Haryana had earlier set a challenging target of 234/3, thanks to a blistering 110-run partnership between Ankit Kumar (89 off 42 balls) and Nishant Sindhu (63 not out off 38 balls). Mumbai's bowling attack struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Sairaj Patil being the only bowler to pick up multiple wickets.
Mumbai's response was aggressive from the start. Ajinkya Rahane provided early momentum with a quickfire 21 off 10 balls. However, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal who took complete control of the chase, displaying his credentials in the shortest format. The left-handed opener scored a blistering 101 off 50 balls, which included 16 boundaries and one six, maintaining a striking strike rate of 202.00.
Jaiswal wasted no time settling in,launching an assault on the Haryana bowlers from the outset. He particularly targeted the pace bowlers, capitalizing on anything overpitched or short. Jaiswal raced to his half-century in just 23 deliveries. With Mumbai motoring past 100 in the seventh over, Jaiswal continued his onslaught, reaching his century in 48 balls.
Sarfaraz Khan provided excellent support, scoring a sensational 64 off just 25 balls. The pair added 88 runs in just 6.1 overs, making the chase look easy. Jaiswal was eventually dismissed in the 18th over, but by then, Mumbai only needed seven runs from 17 balls. Mumbai eventually reached the target in 17.3 overs, securing a crucial victory.
This was Jaiswal's fourth century in T20 cricket. His innings ensured that Mumbai never felt the pressure of the asking rate. Jaiswal's performance has intensified calls for his inclusion in India's T20I squad. Named Player of the Match, Jaiswal requested his teammate Sarfaraz to join him while collecting the 'Player of The Match' cheque. This victory keeps Mumbai's hopes alive in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.
