Dharamsala, December 14, 2025 - India's recent T20I victory over South Africa in Dharamsala not only secured a 2-1 lead in the five-match series but also provided a light-hearted moment involving a delayed Decision Review System (DRS) call. After the match, Arshdeep Singh revealed that the delay was orchestrated by captain Suryakumar Yadav, who wanted to inject some suspense into the situation.
The incident occurred during South Africa's innings when Arshdeep Singh bowled a delivery that struck Reeza Hendricks on the front pad. The Indian team was convinced of the dismissal and were ready to appeal for the review. However, instead of immediately signaling for the "T," Suryakumar Yadav paused, creating a moment of anticipation for both the players and viewers.
Arshdeep Singh, who was named Player of the Match for his impressive bowling spell of 2/13, clarified the situation during the post-match conversation. "Not really. It was Surya bhai who wanted to get some suspense in that one," Arshdeep said. "I knew that it was out from the moment it struck Hendricks on the front pad. When I got the approval from Jitesh Sharma, we were going for the review, but Surya bhai wanted to take some time and then signal the review".
The successful DRS review led to Hendricks' dismissal, contributing to South Africa's early struggles. Arshdeep's early breakthroughs, along with Harshit Rana's (2/34) and Hardik Pandya's (1/23), dismantled the South African batting lineup, restricting them to a modest total of 117.
India chased down the target with ease, securing a seven-wicket victory. Abhishek Sharma's aggressive start and Shubman Gill's steady innings laid the foundation for the win. Although Suryakumar Yadav fell before the end of the match, the team reached the target in 15.5 overs.
This win marked a significant turnaround for Arshdeep Singh, who had a disappointing performance in the previous match. His ability to swing the ball in the favorable conditions of Dharamsala proved crucial in redeeming himself and setting the tone for India's victory.
The moment of levity surrounding the DRS call also highlighted the team's camaraderie and the captain's playful nature. Suryakumar Yadav's decision to add a touch of drama to the review process provided a memorable moment in what was otherwise a dominant performance by the Indian team.
