India's journey to the title was marked by dominant performances throughout the tournament. They began their campaign with comprehensive 4-0 victories against Switzerland and Brazil in the group stage. This was followed by a 3-0 victory over South Africa in the quarterfinals. The team then stunned the defending two-time champions, Egypt, with another emphatic 3-0 victory in the semi-finals.
In the final against Hong Kong, India continued their dominant form, securing a 3-0 victory. Veteran Joshna Chinnappa set the tone with a 3-1 win over Lee Ka Yi in the women's singles. Abhay Singh then extended India's lead with a straight-sets victory.
The victory represents a significant leap forward for Indian squash on the global stage, surpassing their bronze medal finish in the 2023 edition. Furthermore, the win is particularly timely as squash is set to make its debut at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, which is expected to further elevate the sport's profile and popularity within India. The Prime Minister acknowledged this potential, expressing his hope that the World Cup win would inspire more young people to take up squash.
