Lionel Messi's India Visit Ends: A Heartfelt Farewell to Delhi and Indian Football Fans.

New Delhi, December 15, 2025 - Lionel Messi concluded his highly anticipated India tour today, leaving a lasting impression on fans across the nation. The Argentine superstar's visit, part of the "GOAT India Tour 2025," saw him travel to Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and finally, New Delhi.

The final leg of the tour culminated in a vibrant display of appreciation at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, typically a cricket venue. Thousands of fans, donning Argentina jerseys and waving flags, filled the stadium to capacity, chanting Messi's name in unison. The football icon expressed his gratitude, thanking the supporters for their overwhelming "love and support".

Despite concerns regarding hazardous air pollution in the capital, enthusiastic fans were undeterred in their eagerness to witness their hero. Sumesh Raina, a 29-year-old fan, conveyed the sentiments of many, stating, "I'm very excited to see Messi, I have been watching him since my childhood".

Earlier in the day, Messi's schedule in Delhi included a meet-and-greet at the Leela Palace Hotel and a meeting with prominent figures, such as the Chief Justice of India, the Army Chief, and the Argentine Ambassador. A grand welcome ceremony, complete with music, was held at the stadium, followed by a celebrity football match and a football clinic for 22 children. Messi also met with Indian sporting champions, including Rohit Sharma, Sumit Antil, Nikhat Zareen, and Nishad Kumar.

The India tour wasn't without its share of controversy. The Kolkata leg faced disruptions when fans, frustrated by limited visibility and Messi's brief appearance, vandalized the Salt Lake Stadium. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) distanced itself from the event, clarifying that it was a private event organized by a PR agency.

Subsequent events in Hyderabad and Mumbai proceeded more smoothly. In Mumbai, Messi had the opportunity to meet cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Indian football star Sunil Chhetri.

The "GOAT India Tour 2025" was designed to celebrate every facet of Messi's illustrious career. The tour included celebrity matches, opportunities for young talents, Messi's masterclass showcasing his skills, and musical tributes. Tickets for the tour were available through the District ticketing platform, with prices varying across the different cities.

As Messi departs India, his visit will be remembered for the passion and fervor it ignited among Indian football fans, despite the challenges encountered along the way.
