Arizona State Hockey: Jack Beck's Season Ends Prematurely Due to Injury, Sidelines Key Forward.

Arizona State's hockey team has suffered a significant blow as forward Jack Beck has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. Head coach Greg Powers announced the news on Tuesday, January 6th, stating that Beck's injury requires surgery, making a return this season impossible.

"Jack Beck is going to be out for the year," Powers said. "Unfortunately, his injury ended up requiring surgery. We tried to get around it and figure out a way to see if he could play. It's just not going to happen. So big loss, but we've gotten through it and Becker will be back next year, better than ever and stronger than ever."

The loss of Beck is a setback for the Sun Devils, especially considering his veteran presence and contributions to the team. Prior to joining ASU, Beck, a 2021 Calgary Flames draft pick, had experience playing in both the American Hockey League (AHL) and the ECHL. Beck's journey to college hockey is notable, as he played professionally in the ECHL during the 2024-25 season. His decision to join Arizona State reflects a changing landscape in college sports, where players with professional experience are now eligible to compete in the NCAA. In 10 games with ASU, the 22-year-old had recorded eight points.

The injury news comes shortly after Arizona State's victory in the Desert Hockey Classic, where they secured their third consecutive title. Despite the team's recent success, Beck's absence will undoubtedly be felt. In the wake of Beck's injury, younger players have been called upon to step up and contribute to the team's offensive efforts.

While the Sun Devils will miss Beck's contributions, their top line of Bennett Schimek, Cullen Potter, and Cruz Lucius has been a major strength, leading the nation in combined points. Potter, in particular, has been on a tear, notching his first hat trick as a Sun Devil in a recent game against Alaska Anchorage. Lucius has also been a key playmaker, assisting on many of Potter's goals and ranking among the nation's leading scorers.

Coach Powers has emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong forecheck and net-front presence. He has also praised the team's commitment to playing "identity hockey," which involves a willingness to pay the price and create scoring opportunities. With Beck sidelined, the Sun Devils will need other players to elevate their game and fill the void left by his absence. The team has shown resilience in the face of injuries, with players like Ty Nash stepping up to make an impact.
