FA Cup Upsets: Leeds Mount Comeback Victory Over Derby, West Ham Secure Hard-Fought Win

Leeds United displayed resilience to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat Derby County 3-1 in FA Cup action, while West Ham United secured a narrow victory against Queens Park Rangers.

At Pride Park, Leeds United faced a determined Derby County side. The hosts took the lead in the 35th minute when Ben Brereton Diaz found the net, adding to the woes of Leeds after Joel Piroe's penalty was saved earlier in the match. Leeds struggled to convert their chances in the first half, facing a setback after Piroe's penalty miss and subsequent goal from Brereton Diaz.

However, the second half saw a revitalized Leeds United emerge. In the 55th minute, Wilfried Gnonto unleashed an unstoppable shot, leveling the score. Just four minutes later, Ao Tanaka capitalized on a parried shot from Piroe, putting Leeds ahead. James Justin sealed the victory in stoppage time with a well-executed counter-attack, ensuring Leeds's place in the FA Cup fourth round. Leeds's second-half performance showcased their quality and determination, turning the game around with three goals. The win was well-deserved, reflecting their dominance after the break.

Meanwhile, at London Stadium, West Ham United edged past Queens Park Rangers (QPR) with a 2-1 victory after extra time. Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring for West Ham, but Richard Kone equalized for QPR, forcing the game into extra time. Taty Castellanos, West Ham's recent signing, proved to be the hero, scoring the winning goal in extra time. The victory provided a much-needed respite for West Ham and their manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, ending a winless streak that stretched back to November. Despite QPR's efforts, West Ham's persistence paid off, securing their spot in the next round.

The draw for the FA Cup fourth round is scheduled to take place on Monday, January 12, with ties to be played across the weekend of February 13-16.
