Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch is facing a complex situation as he navigates the team's goaltending depth. With Tristan Jarry returning from injury, the Oilers now have three NHL-caliber goalies on their roster: Jarry, Connor Ingram, and Calvin Pickard. This unusual scenario presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the coaching staff, leaving Knoblauch unsure how the workload will be divided.

"We're not really set on exactly how we're going to do this (with) three goalies, and if it's for the rest of the season, for the next couple of weeks, for a couple months ... but right now, we're playing it day by day,” Knoblauch said.

Jarry, acquired in a trade with Pittsburgh, started strong with three consecutive wins before being sidelined with a lower-body injury. In his absence, Ingram was called up from Bakersfield and, along with Pickard, has been competing for the backup role. Ingram has played well enough to warrant consideration, posting a 3-2-1 record with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage. Pickard's numbers this season are 5-6-2 with a 3.68 GAA and an .871 SV%.

Knoblauch acknowledged that all three goalies will remain on the roster for the immediate future, but changes are expected. The team wants to be cautious with Jarry's playing time as he returns from injury. Connor Ingram started a game against the New York Islanders. Knoblauch has been complimentary of Ingram's performance, noting his "steady goaltending". "Connor's played very well,” Knoblauch said. “I think all but one start has been very solid. Some games have been really good. The last one against Chicago, I thought that was his best".

The Oilers have a busy schedule, which provides an opportunity to evaluate Jarry's readiness and assess the overall goaltending situation. Jarry will likely start at least one game during this stretch, and possibly more if he performs well.

With Ingram's waiver-exempt status nearing expiration, the Oilers risk losing him or Pickard if they don't make a decision soon. The most logical solution might be trading Pickard.

Several factors could influence the Oilers' decision, including performance, salary cap considerations, and roster strategy. For now, Knoblauch is taking a day-by-day approach, evaluating his options and trying to find the best way to utilize his three goalies.
