New Delhi - Jonatan Christie of Indonesia secured his place in the men's singles final of the India Open 2026, a BWF World Tour Super 750 event, with a hard-fought victory over Singapore's Loh Kean Yew. The world No. 4 and third seed, Christie, overcame the eighth-seeded former world champion in a 21-18, 22-20 match that lasted 46 minutes. He will now face Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei in the final.
Loh Kean Yew started strong, taking an early lead in the first game by unleashing quick winners. He held an 11-5 advantage before Christie adjusted his strategy. The Indonesian engaged Loh in longer rallies, utilizing his defensive skills to force errors from his opponent. This change in tactics proved effective as Christie won six consecutive points to level the score at 15-15. He then capitalized on quick net taps and down-the-line smashes to win the first game.
In the second game, Loh Kean Yew appeared to regain his focus, establishing a 17-13 lead by keeping Christie away from the net. However, Christie once again demonstrated resilience, launching a series of quick attacks to shift the momentum. He eventually clinched the match on his second match point, extending his winning streak against Loh to an impressive 9-0.
"In the second game when Loh started to come back, I held my nerves and adapted to the game better and managed to win,” said Christie after the match.
Lin Chun-Yi secured his spot in the final by defeating Victor Lai of Canada in a closely contested match. Lin prevailed with a score of 21-9, 6-21, 22-20 in a match that lasted over an hour.
Christie, who left the Indonesian national team setup in mid-2025, is aiming for his first title of the year. He had a successful 2025, winning the Korea Open Super 500, Denmark Open Super 1000, and Hylo Open Super 500. His sights are set on the World Championships and Asian Games later in the year.
In other action at the India Open 2026, An Se Young of South Korea will face Wang Zhi Yi of China in the women's singles final.
