Mumbai Indians Women's Team Appoints Lisa Keightley, a Two-Time World Cup Champion, as Head Coach

The Mumbai Indians have announced Lisa Keightley, a former Australian cricketer and two-time World Cup winner, as the head coach of their women's team. Keightley's appointment comes ahead of the next Women's Premier League (WPL) season and aims to further strengthen the team, which has already established itself as a dominant force in the league.

Keightley brings a wealth of experience to the Mumbai Indians, having been a part of Australia's World Cup victories in 1997 and 2005. Her coaching career spans across Australia, England, and various top-tier domestic leagues. Notably, she holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve as full-time head coach of the England women's team. She has also coached the Australian national side.

Most recently, Keightley guided the Northern Superchargers to victory in The Hundred women's competition. She also has experience in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and previously served as an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals Women in the WPL.

Nita Ambani, owner of the Mumbai Indians, expressed her excitement about Keightley's arrival, highlighting her pioneering spirit. She stated that Keightley's "passion, expertise and pioneering spirit" have inspired generations and that her arrival marks an exciting new chapter for the Mumbai Indians. Ambani added that the team looks forward to scaling even greater heights and building on their legacy of excellence with Keightley on board.

Keightley expressed her honor in joining the Mumbai Indians, acknowledging their benchmark-setting status in the WPL. She conveyed her admiration for the team's "culture of excellence and care" and stated her eagerness to collaborate with the talented group to build on their success and continue inspiring both on and off the field.

The Mumbai Indians women's team has been a force to reckon with in the WPL, securing championships in 2023 and 2025. They won the inaugural edition of the WPL in 2023, defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final. In 2025, they repeated their success, further solidifying their position as the most successful team in the league. The team is captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, who also leads the Indian national women's team.

Before transitioning to coaching, Keightley had a successful playing career as an opening batter for Australia. She represented the national team in nine Test matches, 82 One Day Internationals, and one T20 International.

Keightley's appointment is seen as a strategic move to maintain the Mumbai Indians' dominance in the WPL and further elevate the team's performance. Her extensive experience, both as a player and a coach, makes her a valuable asset to the team. With Keightley at the helm, the Mumbai Indians Women are well-positioned to continue their reign as one of the most formidable sides in women's T20 cricket.
