Liverpool's Injury Concerns: Alisson, Ekitike Updates and Arne Slot's Early Insights on Team Fitness

Liverpool is dealing with several injury concerns as they navigate a busy start to the 2025-26 season. Manager Arne Slot has provided updates on the conditions of key players, including goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Hugo Ekitike.

Alisson's Hamstring Injury

Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, suffered a hamstring injury during their recent Champions League match against Galatasaray. The Brazilian was forced off in the second half of the 1-0 defeat. Initial reports suggest that Alisson will be sidelined until after the international break in November. This could mean he will miss up to eight games, including key fixtures against Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.

Slot confirmed that Alisson would not be available for the game against Chelsea and would also miss international duty with Brazil. When asked about a timeline for Alisson's return, Slot stated he could not provide a firm estimate, as recovery speeds can vary.

Alisson has had a history of injury issues, particularly hamstring strains, since the 2019-20 season. He has missed a significant number of matches for Liverpool due to various injuries.

In Alisson's absence, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to step in as the starting goalkeeper. Mamardashvili, a summer signing, made his debut in a Carabao Cup match against Southampton. Freddie Woodman is set to be the backup goalkeeper.

Hugo Ekitike's Injury

Hugo Ekitike also sustained an injury during the Galatasaray game, shortly after Alisson's withdrawal. According to Sky Sports, Ekitike "felt something when he had to reach for the ball". Despite limping off the field, reports suggest the injury may not be serious.

Slot stated that he would need to assess Ekitike's condition before determining his availability for the Chelsea match. However, Ekitike's inclusion in the France squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers could be a positive sign regarding the severity of the injury.

Ekitike, who joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt, has made a positive impact since his arrival. He has scored five goals in eight appearances for the club.

Other Considerations

Liverpool has faced other injury concerns as well. Sky Sports notes that Liverpool felt Ekitike’s absence in the loss against Crystal Palace. With Alexander Isak not fully fit, Liverpool's attacking options have been somewhat limited.

Despite the injury setbacks, Liverpool has a busy schedule ahead, including Premier League, Champions League, and EFL Cup matches. Slot will need to manage his squad carefully to navigate this period.
