Australia faces India in first ODI, missing key players Inglis and Zampa due to unforeseen circumstances.

Australia will be without Josh Inglis and Adam Zampa for the first One-Day International (ODI) against India in Perth. The match is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2025.

Inglis is still recovering from a calf strain that sidelined him during Australia's recent T20 tour of New Zealand. He has been out of action since injuring his right calf during training with Western Australia on September 19. It is anticipated that Inglis will be available for selection for the third ODI against India, which is set to take place in Sydney on October 25.

Zampa will miss the opening match due to family reasons as he awaits the birth of his child. He is expected to rejoin the squad for the remaining two ODIs in Adelaide and Sydney.

In light of these absences, Josh Philippe and Matt Kuhnemann have been called up to the squad. Philippe is in line to make his first ODI appearance since Australia's tour of the West Indies in 2021. He was previously added to the T20 squad as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell but did not play. Kuhnemann, a Queensland spinner, could also play his first international match on home soil. He last played an ODI in 2022.

With both Inglis and Alex Carey unavailable for the first ODI, Philippe is set to take on the wicketkeeping duties. Carey was released to play in South Australia's Sheffield Shield match against Queensland to prepare for the upcoming Ashes series. Philippe has the opportunity to make a strong impression, with Carey expected to return for the second game and Inglis potentially available for the third.

Philippe has shown good form recently, scoring 123 not out and 50 during Australia A's tour of India last month. He also scored 85 in a one-dayer against Sri Lanka A in July.

The Australian squad for the first ODI in Perth includes Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Kuhnemann and Josh Philippe (wk).

Australia is aiming to manage the workload of players throughout the series as they prepare for the summer season and the Ashes series.
