Report: Pakistan withdraws from Men's Junior Hockey World Cup in India amidst escalating tensions and security concerns.

Pakistan has officially withdrawn its men's hockey team from the upcoming Junior Hockey World Cup, scheduled to be held in Chennai and Madurai, India from November 28 to December 10. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) cited prevailing tensions between the two countries as the primary reason for their decision.

PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid stated that the federation has formally informed the International Hockey Federation (FIH) about their withdrawal, deeming it inappropriate to travel to India under the current circumstances. Mujahid also mentioned that Pakistan had proposed the possibility of playing their matches at a neutral venue.

This decision follows heightened tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, particularly after a four-day armed conflict in May. The conflict was triggered by a terrorist attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which India claimed was backed by Pakistan.

Earlier this year, Pakistan also withdrew from the Asia Cup citing security concerns. This controversy began when India decided against sending its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, which Islamabad criticized as politicization of sports. Subsequently, a "fusion formula" was agreed upon, allowing India to participate in the tournament at a neutral venue. Pakistan was also compelled to host the Asia Cup 2023 using a hybrid model, with India's matches and the final held in Sri Lanka. However, Pakistan did participate in the 2023 ICC World Cup held in India.

PHF President Tariq Bugti stated that the strained relations between the two countries significantly influenced the decision to withdraw from the Junior World Cup. He said that the current situation makes it impossible for them to travel to India. Bugti further elaborated that the strained diplomatic and military relations between the two countries were the primary reason behind the withdrawal.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey had previously stated that Pakistan would be welcome to participate in the Junior World Cup, but India would not "play the waiting game" for them. Hockey India secretary Bholanath Singh confirmed that preparations for the Junior World Cup are in their final stages and that Pakistan's participation remains uncertain.
