Vancouver Canucks Bolster Forward Ranks, Acquire Lukas Reichel from Chicago Blackhawks

In a move aimed at injecting more offensive dynamism into their lineup, the Vancouver Canucks have acquired forward Lukas Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft. The announcement was made Friday by Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin.

Reichel, 23, brings a blend of skill and potential to Vancouver. Allvin expressed optimism about the young player's fit with the Canucks, stating, "Lukas is an exciting young player and someone we feel can help improve our forward group". He further elaborated on Reichel's offensive capabilities, noting his playmaking abilities and capacity to generate scoring opportunities. Allvin also highlighted Reichel's skating ability and work ethic, expressing confidence in the Canucks' coaching staff's ability to further refine his game and foster consistency.

The fourth-round pick heading to Chicago originally belonged to the Blackhawks before being acquired by Vancouver on June 26, 2024.

This season, Reichel has played five games for the Blackhawks, tallying four points (two goals, two assists) and maintaining a +1 plus/minus rating. His current point total places him in a tie for sixth on the Blackhawks roster, while his two goals tie him for fourth.

A native of Nurnberg, Germany, Reichel was drafted by the Blackhawks in the first round, 17th overall, in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his NHL career, all of which has been spent with Chicago, Reichel has appeared in 174 games, amassing 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists). He also has an impressive AHL record, with 116 points (42 goals, 74 assists) in 121 games with the Rockford IceHogs, earning him a spot in the 2023 AHL All-Star Game.

Reichel has also represented Germany on the international stage at several tournaments, including the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championships, as well as the 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025 World Championships.

The acquisition of Reichel provides the Canucks with a young, skilled forward who has the potential to develop into a valuable contributor. His offensive abilities and strong work ethic align with the Canucks' vision for building a competitive and dynamic team. The Canucks' coaching staff will now focus on integrating Reichel into the lineup and helping him reach his full potential.
