Mbeumo and Cunha Shine as Manchester United Secure Third Consecutive Victory Against Brighton

Manchester United secured their third consecutive Premier League victory with a 4-2 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo's brace sealed the win, although the Red Devils had to fend off a late comeback attempt from the Seagulls.

The victory, building on last weekend's win at Liverpool, moved Manchester United up to fourth in the league standings. Brighton, who had won six of their last seven Premier League encounters with United, arrived at Old Trafford seeking their fourth consecutive victory there but were ultimately overcome.

Manchester United's new signing, Matheus Cunha, opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a curled shot past Jan Paul van Hecke, marking his first goal for the club. Casemiro doubled the lead ten minutes later, his deflected effort wrong-footing Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

After the break, Bryan Mbeumo extended United's advantage in the 61st minute with a low strike into the right-hand corner. However, Brighton mounted a late fightback, with Danny Welbeck scoring a stunning free-kick in the 74th minute and Charalampos Kostoulas heading in a second goal in stoppage time. Mbeumo then sealed the victory with a late goal in the 96th minute.

Mbeumo joined Manchester United in July 2025 after making 242 appearances for Brentford. The Cameroonian international has quickly become an important part of the Red Devils' attack. Matheus Cunha, who arrived at Old Trafford in June 2025, has also impressed since his arrival. The Brazilian forward was acquired from Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he scored 15 Premier League goals in the previous season.

Both Mbeumo and Cunha have settled in well at Manchester United, with Cunha already forming a strong bond with Luke Shaw. Mbeumo's early goal against Liverpool and his overall dynamic play have also drawn praise.

The win against Brighton marked a significant step forward for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim, who celebrated back-to-back league wins for the first time since taking charge last November.
