Wrexham, Wales – In a stunning turn of events, Kieffer Moore's second-half hat-trick propelled Wrexham to a 3-2 victory over Coventry City, ending the Sky Blues' unbeaten start to the Championship season. The Wales international's heroics came against a Coventry side that had been the only unbeaten team in the English Football League (EFL).
Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, entered the match with hopes of securing a club-record seventh straight league win. The Sky Blues, who have been playing at the Coventry Building Society Arena, are currently fifth in the Championship.
The first half saw Coventry take the lead in the 22nd minute. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto delivered a deep cross that found Ephron Mason-Clark, who finished superbly at the near post. The goal was a culmination of Coventry's attacking pressure, although Wrexham also had their chances. Carl Rushworth, Coventry's goalkeeper, made a crucial save early on, denying Lewis O'Brien.
Wrexham, however, emerged a different side after the break. Moore's resurgence began on the hour mark when he slid in to meet a Josh Windass cross, leveling the score. Nine minutes later, the same duo connected again, with Moore heading home another Windass cross to put Wrexham ahead. Moore completed his hat-trick in the 83rd minute, latching onto a through ball and slotting past Rushworth. This was Moore's first hat-trick in over seven years. All three goals were assisted by Windass.
Sakamoto pulled a goal back for Coventry in the 88th minute with a strike from 20 yards, but it proved to be a mere consolation. Wrexham held on to secure the victory, moving up to 11th in the league table.
The defeat marks a setback for Frank Lampard's Coventry City, who had been enjoying a strong start to the season. Before this match, Wrexham had only won one of their previous seven games.
Coventry's starting formation was a 4-2-3-1. Rushworth made some good saves but was eventually beaten by Moore's clinical finishing. The defense, which included players like Liam Kitching and Jake Clarke-Salter, struggled to contain Wrexham's attacking threat in the second half.
The Sky Blues will look to bounce back in their next fixture, while Wrexham will aim to build on this impressive win.
