David Beckham has been awarded a knighthood in the King’s Birthday Honours list, announced on June 13, 2025. The former England football captain has expressed immense pride and gratitude for the honor, which recognizes his contributions to both sport and charity.

Beckham, who turned 50 in May, has had an illustrious career as a footballer, playing for some of the world's most iconic clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. He is the first English player to win league titles in four different countries. His achievements include six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and a Champions League title with Manchester United, as well as league titles in Spain, the United States, and France.

Beyond his club career, Beckham was a key figure in the England national team. He earned 115 caps, the third-highest number for any senior men's player, and captained his country 59 times. A memorable moment in his international career was the crucial free-kick against Greece in 2001, which secured England's place in the 2002 World Cup. He is also the first English player to score in three FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Beckham's impact extends far beyond the football pitch. He has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2005, and in 2015, he launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to support vulnerable children around the world. In 2024, he became an ambassador for The King's Foundation, supporting King Charles' education program and efforts to connect young people with nature. He also plays a role as part-owner of League Two side Salford City, and as president and co-owner of Major League Soccer team Inter Miami in the United States, further demonstrating his commitment to the sport and its development.

Having already been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003, this knighthood marks a new height in the recognition of his contributions to British society. As a result of his knighthood, his wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will now be formally styled Lady Beckham.

The King's Birthday Honours list also includes other notable figures from the entertainment and sports industries. Actor Gary Oldman and The Who frontman Roger Daltrey are also receiving knighthoods, while Strictly Come Dancing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman are being made Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler is also receiving an MBE.

The King's Birthday Honours list recognizes 830 Australians, including awards in the Order of Australia, meritorious awards, and recognition for distinguished service. The awards reflect contributions across various fields, including community service, arts, sciences, and military service.

Beckham’s knighthood acknowledges not only his exceptional sporting career but also his extensive work with charitable organizations and his role as a global ambassador for Britain. It solidifies his status as a national icon and a role model for future generations.
