Ismael Diaz etched his name into Concacaf Gold Cup lore with a phenomenal performance, scoring to give Panama an early lead and ultimately a commanding victory over Jamaica in their Group C clash. The match, held on June 24, 2025, at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, saw Diaz net a hat trick, propelling Panama to a 3-1 win and solidifying their position at the top of the group.

Diaz's first goal came early in the match, injecting energy into the Panamanian side. According to reports, the goal involved a stroke of fortune, with Diaz faking out a defender and unleashing a shot that deflected off Jamaica's Leon Bailey, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and giving Panama the lead. This early advantage allowed Panama to dictate the tempo of the game, maintaining nearly 80% ball possession in the first half.

The relentless attacking pressure from Panama eventually proved too much for the Jamaican defense. Diaz once again found himself in a prime scoring position, receiving the ball on the edge of the box. With skillful footwork, he accelerated past his marker and fired a shot into the far corner, leaving the Jamaican goalkeeper with no chance. This second goal further solidified Panama's lead and showcased Diaz's clinical finishing ability.

Diaz completed his hat trick from the penalty spot. A needless challenge on Londono by Palmer at the edge of the box led to the penalty. Diaz stepped up and confidently converted, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and sealing a memorable individual performance.

While Diaz stole the headlines, Jamaica did manage to find a consolation goal. A terrific ball from Lembikisa on the right flank found Bell, who headed the ball into the net, momentarily reducing the deficit. However, it was not enough to spark a comeback against a dominant Panamanian side. A late penalty claim by Jamaica, for a challenge inside the box against Brown, was reviewed by VAR and ultimately turned down.

Panama entered the match undefeated in the tournament, having previously secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Guatemala. Jamaica, on the other hand, were looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Guatemala in their opening match.

With this victory, Panama not only advanced to the quarterfinals but also secured the top spot in Group C. Jamaica's hopes of advancing hinged on this match, making it a must-win encounter.
