Tragedy has struck the football world with the news of Diogo Jota's untimely death at the age of 28. The Liverpool and Portugal forward reportedly died in a car accident in Spain.

News outlets are reporting that the accident occurred in the vicinity of Zamora, in northwestern Spain. Initial reports indicate that Jota was traveling with his brother, André Silva, when the vehicle veered off the road. Sadly, both Diogo and his brother, André, 25, were found dead at the scene. Spanish authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Diogo Jota, born on December 4, 1996, had a burgeoning career, marked by his explosive pace, dribbling ability, and clinical finishing. Jota began his professional journey with Paços de Ferreira before moving to Atlético Madrid in 2016. He then had loan spells with FC Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers. His time with Wolverhampton proved successful, earning him a permanent transfer and helping the team gain promotion to the Premier League. With Liverpool, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.

Off the pitch, Jota was known to be an avid gamer, even reaching the top rank in FIFA 21's Champions Leaderboard in February 2021. He owned an eSports team, Luna Galaxy, and actively streamed on Twitch.

Just recently, on June 22, 2025, Diogo Jota married Rute Cardoso. The couple had three children.

The news of Jota's death has sent shockwaves throughout the football community. Tributes have been pouring in from teammates, coaches, fans, and rivals alike, all expressing their sorrow and disbelief at the tragic loss of such a promising talent.
