The football world is in mourning following the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash at the age of 28. The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning near Zamora, in northwestern Spain. Spanish news agency EFE reports that Jota's brother, Andre Silva, 26, also a footballer, died in the crash.

Liverpool Football Club has expressed its profound sadness at the news, releasing a statement acknowledging Jota's significant contribution to the team since joining in 2020. The club highlighted his impressive goal-scoring record of 47 goals in 123 appearances and his role in securing four trophies, including the Premier League title last season.

Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender and renowned football pundit, also shared his condolences via social media. He described Jota as a "fantastic player and a lovely lad" and acknowledged the shock and sadness felt by everyone associated with Liverpool.

According to local police reports, the car Jota was traveling in left the road due to a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle. The Guardia Civil in Zamora confirmed Jota's death, and a statement from Zamora Provincial Council has been released.

Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers and quickly became an integral part of Jurgen Klopp's squad. A versatile attacker, Jota was capable of playing anywhere across the front line, known for his work rate, technical ability, and eye for goal.

The Portuguese national team, for whom Jota was also a key player, released a statement describing him as "not only a fantastic player" but "an extraordinary person who was respected by all his teammates and opponents".

Just two weeks prior to the accident, Jota married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso. They had three children together.
