The FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals witnessed a heavyweight clash between Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain and German champions Bayern Munich at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, United States. The match kicked off at 12pm local time (16:00 GMT).

PSG entered the match as slight favorites, buoyed by their impressive form throughout the competition. They had previously dismantled Atletico Madrid and Inter Miami with 4-0 victories. However, Bayern Munich, despite a loss to Benfica in the group stage, showcased their own scoring prowess, including a 4-2 victory over Flamengo in the round of 16. Harry Kane, Bayern's star striker, was expected to lead their attack.

Notably, Bayern Munich held a psychological edge over PSG, having won their last four encounters, including the 2020 Champions League final.

The winner of the match will face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals. The other semi-final will see Chelsea face Fluminense.

Before the game, Bayern's Harry Kane expressed his belief that his side could beat anyone. Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany downplayed earlier criticism of PSG counterpart Luis Enrique, whose team Bayern defeated 1-0 in November.

Bayern Munich were forced to make at least one change to their squad from the win against Flamengo, with Leroy Sane leaving the camp to complete a transfer to Galatasaray. Kingsley Coman and Konrad Laimer were also doubtful after picking up knocks against Flamengo.
