Newcastle United are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign experienced England midfielder Jordan Nobbs for their upcoming season in the Women's Super League (WSL) 2. The club aims to bolster their squad and push for promotion to the top tier.

Nobbs, 32, is available as a free agent after her contract with Aston Villa concluded earlier this summer. Her extensive experience and leadership qualities are seen as a significant asset for Newcastle as they navigate their second season in the WSL 2, formerly known as the Women's Championship. Newcastle finished fifth in the second tier last season, marking their debut in the newly-renamed league after earning promotion.

A decorated player with 71 caps for the Lionesses, Nobbs brings a wealth of experience to the Newcastle squad. She made her senior debut for England in 2013 and was part of the 2015 World Cup squad. Although she isn't part of the current squad in Switzerland, her international experience remains invaluable. Nobbs' achievements include three WSL titles with Arsenal in 2011, 2012, and 2019. In 2017, she was recognized as the WSL Players' Player of the Year.

Nobbs holds the distinction of being the only player to have played and scored in every WSL campaign since its inception in 2011. Last October, she became the league's all-time leading appearance-maker, solidifying her status as one of the English game's greatest players. Before joining Aston Villa in January 2023, Nobbs played 270 games for Arsenal, scoring 81 goals. During her 12-year spell with the Gunners after arriving from Sunderland, she contributed to winning four Women's FA Cups and five League Cups. Nobbs also spent her youth career in Sunderland, growing up in County Durham.

Newcastle have already made one summer signing, securing former Southampton defender Jemma Purfield. Purfield, who previously played for Leicester and Liverpool, spent two seasons with Southampton. The potential addition of Nobbs signals Newcastle's ambition to strengthen their squad with experienced players capable of making an immediate impact.

Following her departure from Aston Villa, Nobbs affirmed that she was not retiring. Besides Newcastle, she has reportedly attracted interest from European and American clubs.
