Following a hard-fought 2-2 draw in the Test series against England, Team India is gearing up for a busy and exciting cricket season for the rest of 2025. The schedule includes the Asia Cup, home series against West Indies and South Africa, and a tour of Australia. Here’s a breakdown of what lies ahead for the Men in Blue.

Asia Cup 2025 (September)

India's next assignment is the Asia Cup in September, to be held in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will be played in the T20I format. India will face the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10, followed by a high-voltage match against Pakistan on September 14, and then Oman on September 19.

With senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup, a relatively young squad led by Suryakumar Yadav is expected to participate. Selectors might rest some Test regulars from the England series to manage their workload.

West Indies Tour of India (October)

In October, India will return to the red-ball format, hosting the West Indies for a two-match Test series. The first Test will be held in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6, and the second in Delhi from October 10 to 14. This series marks the beginning of India's next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle campaign. This presents an opportunity for selectors to test their bench strength and give chances to emerging players.

Australia Tour (October - November)

Immediately after the West Indies series, India will fly to Australia for a limited-overs tour. The tour will consist of three ODIs and five T20Is. The ODI series will begin on October 19 in Perth. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to return to the national side for the ODI series.

South Africa Tour of India (November - December)

India will conclude the year with a full home series against South Africa in November and December. The Proteas will play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, making it one of the most extensive bilateral tours of the year. The Test series will commence on November 14 in Kolkata, followed by the second Test on November 22 in Guwahati. The ODI series will be held in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam, respectively. The T20I series will be played in Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.

Other notable points:

  • A tour of Bangladesh, originally scheduled for August, has been postponed by mutual agreement between the two boards.
  • The Asia Cup will be held in the T20I format, serving as preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
  • The WTC 2025-27 cycle will begin with the Test series against the West Indies.
  • The busy schedule will require careful workload management of players.
  • The constant switching between formats will test the adaptability of the Indian team.
