Bristol City delivered a stunning performance at Bramall Lane, securing a 4-1 victory over Sheffield United in their opening Championship match of the 2025-26 season. The impressive win puts Bristol City at the top of the league standings early in the season.

Scott Twine was the star of the show, bagging two goals for the Robins. His first came early, a remarkable 25-yard free-kick in the 5th minute that left Sheffield United goalkeeper Michael Cooper with no chance. Despite Sheffield United's Tyrese Campbell equalizing in the 14th minute, assisted by Callum O'Hare, Bristol City quickly regained control. Ross McCrorie scored in the 26th minute, followed by Anis Mehmeti seconds into the second half, putting Bristol City ahead 3-1. Twine's second goal, in the 52nd minute, came from a shot that deflected off Tyler Bindon and looped over Cooper.

The result marks a disastrous start for Ruben Selles, the new Sheffield United manager. Selles addressed his team on the pitch after the match. The Blades included summer arrivals Bindon and Barry in the starting lineup, while Soumare and Ukaki were on the bench. Gustavo Hamer captained Sheffield United, with Robinson declared fit enough to be a substitute.

Despite Sheffield United's efforts, including chances for Barry and Burrows, they couldn't capitalize. City's Vitek made some impressive saves, denying Peck and others, to maintain Bristol City's lead. United made a triple substitution around the hour mark, bringing on Robinson, One, and Cannon, but they couldn't turn the tide.

Bristol City's strong performance showcased their attacking prowess and clinical finishing. The team's ability to capitalize on opportunities and maintain control throughout the match was key to their success. New manager Gerhard Struber couldn't have asked for a better debut, as his team displayed both skill and determination.

Other Championship matches saw Millwall secure a 2-1 victory at Norwich, with Macaulay Langstaff scoring the decisive goal late in the game. West Brom also had a successful start under Ryan Mason, narrowly defeating Blackburn Rovers 1-0. Middlesbrough claimed a 1-0 victory against Swansea City, and Stoke City staged a comeback to beat Derby County 3-1.
