Phil Mickelson, a name synonymous with daring plays and masterful short game skills, once again left golf fans and commentators in awe at the LIV Golf Indianapolis event. The 55-year-old veteran, playing in the final LIV Golf tournament of the 2025 season before the Team Championships, found himself in a tricky situation during the first round of the $20 million competition.

Mickelson's ball landed in shallow water just off the left rough, a few feet from the cup. With more than half of the ball submerged, he had the option to take a drop. However, in a move that has become his trademark, Mickelson chose the bolder route: playing the ball as it lay. Knowing Mickelson's expertise with wedges, those familiar with his game could anticipate something special.

Mickelson executed a chip shot that initially bounced on the green, stopping just a few feet from the hole. While he ultimately missed the seven-foot putt, settling for par on the par-5 hole, the audacity and skill of the shot were what captured everyone's attention. His courageous play provided an opportunity for a birdie, a chance that many other golfers might not have dared to take.

The incredible shot quickly gained traction online, with Golf on Fox sharing a clip of the wedge shot with the caption "TAKE A BOW!". LIV Golf also chimed in, praising Mickelson's abilities with the comment "PHILNominal!". The commentator's remark, "He just never ceases to amaze," encapsulated the sentiment shared by many watching.

Mickelson's shot was a testament to his short game artistry, a skill that has allowed him to compete with the best, including Tiger Woods, throughout his career. Even at this stage, Mickelson continues to display the talent that has made him a fan favorite.

The LIV Golf Indianapolis event, held at Chatham Hills Golf Club in Westfield, Indiana from August 15-17, 2025, features some of golf's top names, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Mickelson. The tournament combines high-level golf with a range of activities for families and fans, including a Kids Zone, mini golf, and live entertainment.

Mickelson has stated that he hopes his legacy will be his involvement with LIV Golf and its success in attracting a younger and more global audience to the sport. His passion for growing the game and creating opportunities for young golfers remains a driving force in his career. The bold style of play and achievements throughout his career will also be remembered.

The tournament is broadcast on Fox Sports and streamed on the Fox Sports App and LIVGolf+ app.
