Team India has commenced its preparations for the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai, with the squad engaging in intense training sessions at the ICC Academy. The Asia Cup 2025, the 17th edition of the tournament, is scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to September 28, 2025. The matches will be played in the T20I format.
India, the defending champions, are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, the UAE, and Oman. Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. India will begin their campaign against the hosts, UAE, on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The highly anticipated clash against Pakistan is scheduled for September 14 at the same venue. India will then face Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.
Ahead of the tournament, the Indian team has been undergoing rigorous training in Dubai. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav expressed his satisfaction with the team's energy and commitment. He praised his teammates for putting their bodies on the line and enjoying the process. Vice-captain Shubman Gill echoed the skipper's sentiments, expressing his excitement about joining the group and their entertaining brand of T20 cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah, returning to T20Is after a break, also shared his enthusiasm about rejoining the squad. Hardik Pandya, refreshed after spending time with his family, is eager to contribute to the team's success. Arshdeep Singh emphasized the importance of building rhythm before the first match. Shivam Dube highlighted the positive team environment that motivates players to improve.
The training sessions have included fitness drills and extended batting practice for key players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Abhishek Sharma. According to reports, the team first engaged in fielding drills in the heat before the batsmen took to the nets under the lights. The players practiced on the center wicket.
Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opted not to hold a preparatory camp in India. Instead, the players were asked to assemble directly in Dubai to acclimatize to the conditions and undergo an extended period of practice sessions.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be played across two venues: Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The final is scheduled to take place on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The tournament will feature a total of 19 matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage, followed by the final between the top two teams from the Super Four.
In a recent development, Shivam Dube revealed Team India's new, sponsor-less jersey for the Asia Cup 2025. This comes after the BCCI terminated its contract with Dream11, the previous jersey sponsor, due to the Online Gaming Bill. The BCCI has initiated the search for a new lead sponsor.
