Sunil Chhetri is set to make his return to the Indian national team, as head coach Khalid Jamil has announced a 30-man probable squad for the upcoming matches against Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers. The preparatory camp is scheduled to begin in Bengaluru on September 20, 2025, with players reporting on September 19.

Chhetri's return comes after he missed out on the CAFA Nations Cup, where India finished third after defeating Oman in penalties. His inclusion is a significant boost for the Blue Tigers as they prepare for the crucial qualifiers. India will face Singapore on October 9 at the National Stadium in Singapore and again on October 14 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao.

Another notable inclusion in the probables list is Muhammad Suhail, who receives his first senior team call-up after a strong performance with the India U23 team. However, veteran defender Sandesh Jhingan will be absent due to an injury sustained during the Nations Cup.

Players from Mohun Bagan SG and FC Goa who have been named in the probables will join the camp after completing their AFC Champions League Two fixtures. Additionally, five players have been named on standby, including two from the U23 team and three from the senior squad; their names will be announced separately.

The selected squad will be aiming to secure a spot in the AFC Asian Cup 2027, with the final round of Group C qualifiers on the horizon. India's qualification group includes Singapore and Hong Kong. Only the top team from the group will advance to the continental showpiece in Saudi Arabia.

The 30-man probable squad includes:

  • Goalkeepers: Amrinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu
  • Defenders: Anwar Ali, Bikash Yumnam, Chinglensana Singh Konsham, Hmingthanmawia Ralte, Muhammed Uvais, Pramveer, Rahul Bheke, Ricky Meetei Haobam, Roshan Singh Naorem
  • Midfielders: Ashique Kuruniyan, Danish Farooq Bhat, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, Jithin MS, Macarton Louis Nickson, Mahesh Singh Naorem, Mohammed Aimen, Nikhil Prabhu, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Vibin Mohanan
  • Forwards: Irfan Yadwad, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Manvir Singh, Parthib Gogoi, Rahim Ali, Sivasakthi Narayanan, Sunil Chhetri
