Tottenham Hotspur's new manager, Thomas Frank, is looking forward to catching up with Everton's David Moyes after their Premier League clash at Goodison Park this Sunday. The two managers have built a strong friendship, and Frank is eager to continue their "fantastic tradition" of sharing a drink after the match.
Frank and Moyes initially bonded during their time as pundits at the Euro 2024 tournament two summers ago. Their camaraderie went viral when they were caught laughing in the background of a podcast recording featuring Gary Lineker. Despite the rivalry on the pitch, Frank values the connection he shares with Moyes and other managers.
"I will 100 percent go in and share a beer or a glass of red with David after the game," Frank stated. "We always do that. That I appreciate. Some do it, some don't. I always invite coaches in, so they are more than welcome. I think it's important. I think it's a fantastic tradition. We are all in the same s***. Only a few of us that actually understand each other. So, even though we can be a little bit, how can you say, tense on the touchline, in the end of the day, we understand each other".
Frank's admiration for Moyes goes back to their first encounter in 2020 during a pre-season friendly between Brentford and West Ham. Since then, their paths have crossed at various events, fostering mutual respect and a genuine friendship. "I also like my red wine and he is also a decent drinker. He also likes his beers and red wine. He's a very good guy and I feel privileged to get to know him".
Moyes also expressed his respect for Frank, acknowledging the strong start he has had as Tottenham's manager. "I think Thomas has had a brilliant start," Moyes said. He recognizes the challenge his team faces against Tottenham, especially considering their strong away record. "It's a tough game. They've got a great away record at the moment, but we've also got a pretty good home record".
Ahead of Sunday's match, Everton has no fresh injury concerns. Jarrad Branthwaite remains sidelined after hamstring surgery, and Nathan Patterson is also unavailable due to a hernia issue. Tottenham, on the other hand, will be without key players such as James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke, all ruled out due to injury. New boss Thomas Frank also has a number of doubts ahead of the clash, with Yves Bissouma, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Kota Takai all facing late fitness checks.
Moyes has highlighted the impressive form of Everton's Ili Ndiaye, praising his versatility and goal-scoring ability. He also acknowledged Jake O'Brien's contribution at center-back. Frank also acknowledged the impact of O'Brien, along with James Garner and Beto, on Everton's improved performances under Moyes.
Everton has won their last five Premier League matches played on Sundays, all under David Moyes since his return to the club in January. Tottenham has the most away points in the Premier League this season.
